Lisa Bumgarner, owner of Arise Publication Specialists, has been working in the graphic design industry for nearly 20 years. She earned her degree in Commercial Graphics while working part-time in the campus print shop of the community college she attended. Her duties in the print shop included operating small offset presses and high-volume, high-speed copiers, and performing many post-press and bindery operations. Lisa performed the "old" pre-press methods of paste-up, film, negatives, and plate-making at her job. In class, however, she diligently explored and become proficient in, computer-generated layout and design techniques on Mac computers, which were equipped with the latest digital-design and desktop publishing softwares.
Lisa Bumgarner
Lisa graduated with honors. She combined her creativity and love of art, her knowledge of printing, and her newly acquired skills and education, with the new technologies of the digital revolution to become a professional graphic artist/graphic designer.

Lisa began freelancing and specialized in generating original logos, corporate identities, and t-shirt designs. She also provided layout, design and typesetting services for a variety of brochures, booklets, and business cards. She taught computer graphics classes part-time at that same community college, as well.

Eager to acquire new skills, Lisa took an entry-level graphics position as ad-setter/graphic artist for a local newspaper. She easily transitioned her Mac computer skills into PC skills in a Windows environment, and learned a variety of new graphic design softwares. Within a year, she became the Advertising Graphics Manager, Pre-Press Manager, and Commercial Print Manager, simultaneously, for the newspaper. In addition to designing advertisements and overseeing the designing of ads, she scheduled production, worked closely with internal and external customers, managed workflow, tasks, and employees.

Lisa then accepted a position at another local community college whereby she designed, produced, and prepared for print and web, everything from business cards to billboards, one-color to full-color brochures, logos to cable TV promos, newspaper ad-campaigns to full-color glossy magazine ads, specialty products to marketing items, bumper stickers to t-shirt designs, promotional publications to the college catalog, and everything in between! She acted as a liason for, and worked closely with, a variety of commercial printers for many different print media projects.

The culmination of Lisa's broad and varied graphics experience, technical expertise, and boundless creativity was the spring-board for forming and operating her own business, Arise Publication Specialists, in June 2003. The business was specifically designed to specialize in providing professional graphic design services, electronic and digital pre-press services, and publication layout and production services.

Lisa says she has "learned something every step of the way" and believes that she must "continue to learn and grow, while staying on the cutting edge of the ever-changing technology associated with this field, in order to provide excellent service for each and every customer."

On a personal note, Lisa says, "I thank God, the creator of all, and the source of all blessings, for this business, my clients and potential clients, and especially for my silent partner, who is also my wonderful husband. The Lord has blessed me in so many ways, and I praise Him for all He has allowed me to do and be. Without Him, I can do nothing, but with Him, all things are possible."
